Patchwork Community Gardening

May 15

Work Day - help needed!

Bedminster Entry Point
The neighbourhood partnership and the new Bedminster Town Team have identified key entrance points to our area which they hope to improve.   One such is the place where Bedminster Bridge meets Bedminster Parade.   Here, there is a patch of ground with 4 plane trees between the road and a small car park next to Zion House.

Apart from the trees it is currently fairly rough with grass and nettles.    We want to plant wildflowers and turn this into a community garden.

Please come, if you can, to this space on Saturday, May 25 between 10 and 1.

What will we do?
1. dig a small trench along the patch car park boundary and plant shrubs;

2. fork, rake and clear the remaining surfaces to remove grass, nettles and other plants;

3. distribute wildflower seeds across the area.

What should you bring?
Stout shoes/boots and gloves are probably a good idea.    Tools could include spades, forks and rakes.    We’ll supply some cans to bring water from local shops.   The seeds and shrubs will be supplied, too.

This is a new patch and an important one in establishing a welcoming entrance to our retail streets.   We’d like a really good turn out so that the work is evenly shared.   Please join us if you can and bring a friend.

April Session

First session of the season

The first Patchwork session of the season is next Thursday, 28th March. We usually start at 6.30pm, but because the clocks haven’t changed yet that would mean we wouldn’t get any light, so let’s start at 6pm - but if anyone’s able to get there any sooner, please get stuck in!
We’re going to meet at the Dean Lane Patch (opposite the SouthBank Centre) and do a tidy there first and then move on to the South Street Patch (or possibly split in to two groups, depending on how many people turn up). Please bring gloves and tools if you have them.

We’ve been given 200 spring bulbs by the Council and need to get them into the ground pretty quickly. Please join us for a planting session on Saturday 1st December at 2.30pm at the South Street patch (on the corners of North and South Street) and we’ll plant some at the orchard too. Please bring gloves and a trowel if you have them.
